There is no powering on, no powering off, and no waiting for a connection.
The standard smart-glasses ritual goes: hold a button for three to five seconds to power on, wait for the Bluetooth connection, press something else to start recording, then hold for three to five seconds to power off. Four steps around one action.
Razzhood Glasses have no power state at all. Press the button and they wake and record. Finish and they return to deep sleep. Long-press exists only for pairing, at five seconds, and factory reset, at fifteen — two things you will do once and then never again.
The battery is 300 mAh, 150 in each temple. Maintaining a live Bluetooth connection costs roughly 0.75 mA around the clock: about 18 mAh a day, which empties this battery in under two weeks. That is the standby figure of most audio wearables, and it is why they need charging weekly.
So the radio is off. Deep sleep draws under 100 microamps, which is on the order of five months. At fifteen minutes of voice notes a day the real figure lands near a month per charge, and the limiting factor is the recording, not the waiting.
Deep sleep is only possible because of a single earlier decision: recording does not use Bluetooth. The button wakes the chip and audio is written straight to local flash. The radio wakes afterwards to sync, transfers, disconnects, sleeps. Sixteen hours of storage exist so that the connection can be optional.
If the sync fails, nothing is lost. The recording was never in the air.
Deleting the power button creates one hard engineering problem. Between the contact closing and the microphone producing stable audio there is a gap of 200 to 400 milliseconds — comfortably long enough to swallow the first syllable of whatever you were about to say.
A product that eats your first word is a product you stop trusting, and no amount of accuracy downstream repairs it. People adapt by pausing after the press, which is the same hesitation the single button was designed to eliminate.
So the microphone begins writing into a ring buffer the instant the contact closes, before anything is stable. Once it is stable, the buffered audio is spliced onto the front of the file. You press and speak in one motion, and the beginning is there.
It is a small feature to describe and the difference between a product that feels instant and one that feels like it is booting.
Two things, mostly: saving battery and reassuring the user that the device is not doing anything. Deep sleep solves the first better than an off switch does — a hundred microamps is close enough to nothing that the distinction has no practical meaning.
The second is where the two halves of the design meet. You do not need to power the glasses off to be sure they are not recording your dinner, because they cannot record your dinner. Once that is true, "off" is a ceremony without a function, and we took it out.
